Learning to dance in the rain!

As a couple Stu & I have a motto. It was even part of our wedding ceremony.

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain"

This is mainly down to our very special holiday in Thailand back in 2011. An adventure holiday, where we only booked one hotel and the rest of the 2 weeks we would island hop and go wherever we felt. What actually happened was the biggest storms in the history of Thailand. We waded through knee deep water with our backpacks above our heads on a daily basis and had to escape one island in the engine room of a boat late one night, with not enough life jackets for everyone. The military actually evacuated the island the next day. We were genuinely lucky to get out of it alive.

However the whole experience at times almost breaking us as a couple (this was exactly 1 year before we were due to get married) was so memorable and bonding for us. I'll never forget one night, being drenched to the bones after leaving a bar and finding a hotel swimming pool on the way back to our cabin in the hills. In that moment it all felt so still. So cleansing being in the rain. We stripped off (sorry TMI!) and jumped in. I remember a starlit sky, rain coming down and swallows swooping over us. We were totally in the moment. Just knowing there was nothing we could do to stop it and to just give in to enjoying it whatever way we could.

You may ask...what the hell has this got to with DLAM?

Well...During the past few months we have been overwhelmed by the messages and amazing stories you have told us. That during this really hard and difficult time, how much the classes  have done for you and how even though days have been tough, by coming to the classes it's allowed you to find joy and something good in all this. Check out the (very apt) Rain On Me dance fit routine for a snippet of what we get up to in class…

I know for me even just being off Dance Fit for a couple of weeks with an injury was enough to really affect my mental health (not to mention my waistline! I'd started to get abs for the first time in my life!) And we were hearing the same from you.

So I'm going to share just some of the success stories we have had, in hope that it will inspire you to come join us online and even in these tough times bring more joy, laughter and connection.

Hayley’s story

" I started attending Dance Fit before lockdown. I always loved how much joy it made me feel and week by week I was getting fitter and stronger (the red face was turning more pink!). The classes in lockdown have been a life saver. I genuinely don't know what I would do without them. Not only have I lost weight (3 stone since the start of my time with Dance Fit) but I'm always left feeling relaxed, uplifted and healthier.

Please don't wait another day to join this amazing class. I promise its changed my life! "

" These classes are the only thing that's kept me going. As a key worker I feel stressed and anxious most days. We have become such a tribe/DLAM Fam and feel so lucky to have such an amazing teacher in Nikki who lifts you both physically and mentally"

We’d love to hear your story - or have you join us at Dance Fit if you haven’t been before. To join us book Dance Fit online or email us your story.
