Become a Dance Like a Mother Instructor

OUR STORY

JOIN THE SISTERHOOD

Dance Like a Mother is like no other parent and baby class out there, and we know this because our attendees tell us all the time! We like to do things differently and we believe that having instructors who emulate our values, are outgoing and kind (and just a little bit bonkers) are the reason parents love our classes so much.

Being part of Dance Like a Mother is having the flexibility of your own business, while having a supportive team around you. We have been running classes across Greater Manchester since 2016 and know the impact they have on everyone who attends (including our instructors!). We are excited to share the DLAM love with even more parents across the UK!

We are a close team and finding instructors who are the right fit is very important to us, so our recruitment process and training takes time (but don’t worry, it will be lots of fun!). In return you will be part of a supportive team, receive fantastic training and ongoing support and grow a business that works for you!

We are currently prioritising recruiting for instructors in the following areas:

  • Manchester

  • Tameside

  • Chester & Cheshire North

  • Leeds

  • Sheffield

  • Liverpool & Wirral

  • Cheshire East

  • Cheshire Central

  • Cheshire South

We are in the process of adapting our systems so we can provide the best training and support for instructors across the UK, so if you’re outside these areas please feel free to apply and we will be in touch.

Please note, that at this time we are unable to offer training outside of the UK.

It’s all about you

What you will need to join the team and make Dance Like a Mother a success in your area…

  • You will need to be an extrovert, very outgoing, fun, kind and passionate. If the thought of leading a large group of very chatty mums and being the centre of attention sounds like your worst nightmare; then this isn’t for you!

  • You will need to be driven and passionate, want to have your own business and be committed to making it a success.

  • You don't take yourself seriously, have a good sense of humour and aren't afraid of failing or making a dickhead of yourself!

  • You want to be part of a team (no lone wolves here!). We believe we are stronger together and that amazing things can happen when women support and empower each other.

  • Dance experience. You will have a dance background, either teaching dance or performing (being able to pick up choreography is a must). You must have excellent rhythm, timing, lots of sass and not be fazed leading a group.

  • You will need to be a parent or have experience that gives you a deep understanding of parents and babies.

  • Knowledge and experience of babywearing is desired, but not essential as full training will be given.

  • You are kind, empathetic and have high emotional intelligence. You want to help others, enjoy bringing women together and are passionate about issues around Parenting and Motherhood.

This is not a 9 to 5

Running DLAM classes has the capacity to work around your family life, and is incredibly rewarding and joyful. It is also hard work (especially at the start) and you will need to be willing to put in time and effort into the training and to get your classes running and continue to grow them.

You will also receive LOTS of support and help from us through the process of setting up and going forward, and you will need to have support from your partner/family to allow you the time to grow your business.

JOINING FAQ’s

What is it like to be a dance like a mother instructor…

Can I bring my baby/toddler to classes with me?

The short answer is yes! All of us have taught with our babies, from age 8 weeks to 3 years. And in the school holidays when we have classes our older kids come along too. It’s lovely to be able to share the experience and dance with them. You can also bring our baby along for your training.

You know your child best, and it really depends on their personality and if they are happy to be in the carrier for the class. We are happy to discuss this with you further and tell you about our experiences.

What is the time commitment?

Training

Training will need to be completed within 10 consecutive weeks. This includes…

  • Eight at home study training modules and assessments. Each module consists of 2-3 hours a week of home learning and assessments much be completed and passed before starting the next module.

  • A minimum of six in-person training days in Manchester. These will consist of of mixture of 1 class and 121 training or 2 classes. These will be between the hours of 9.45am and 2pm on non-consecutive days.

  • 1.5 days Babywearing Training with our Director & Babywearing Consultant Nikki in Manchester (between 10am and 2pm)

  • At home study of routines (you will be given 12 to learn initially)

  • Babywearing Peer Support training with Dr Rosie Knowles ( 1 day over Zoom with around 6 hours of study & prep beforehand)

Launching classes

You will be expected to launch and run two regular classes within 12 weeks of starting your training (unless this coincides with holidays such as Easter, Christmas etc).

Running classes

We ask that all instructors do a minimum of three classes a week. This can be done over 1-2 days a week. However we recommend having one day a week available to cover admin, learning new routines, promotion, finding venues, training, etc. You will be required to do admin before and after each class and we aim to have you travelling no more than 20-30 minutes to a class.

On average we run classes for 10 months of the year, and if term time works best for you then you can run classes during term time only.

What’s my investment?

The most important thing to us is finding the right people, so we don’t want finance to be a barrier. There is an upfront charge for training and equipment, and then a small fee each month, once your classes start. We are happy to share all costs and potential earnings if you are successful in the next stage of the recruitment process.

We will also go grab a coffee after to go through your thoughts and chat further.

Interview -

It’s vital to us that anyone joining our team has the same values as us. We will conduct the interview over Zoom with Nikki (Founder & Director) and Esther (Regional Lead) and ask you the big questions to ensure that we’re a fit! Plus a chance for you to ask us any extra questions that may have come up.

If all of this goes well then we will get the wheels in motion and arrange for your training to start and welcome you into The DLAM Family!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Nikki x

PLEASE NOTE: We are currently taking a little break through August (wrangling kids and hopefully soaking up some rays!), so we will be getting back to applications in September.
