Babywearing In Hot Weather
As the sun is finally shining and some of us are getting to go away on our jolly holidays! So we thought it would be a great time to share some of our top tips about babywearing in hot weather to make sure you and baby are nice and safe...
Suncream
Make sure any skin that is exposed to sunlight has sunscreen applied. Babies under the age of 6 months are advised not to wear sunscreen creams and lotions. This is because their skin is delicate and thinner than an adult's, meaning they may be more likely to have a skin reaction to the lotion and possibly develop rashes. Some great, safe sun cremes are Mother & Baby - Best Baby & Toddler Sunscreens
Sunhat & SHADE FOR BABY’s head
A sunhat will shade your baby from the sun. Great ones to use have a little chin strap to stop falling off! We don't recommend using the hoods on carriers over babies head as it may restrict airflow, cause them to overheat and also means you cannot see babies face. Also the same with muslins or any fabric over the top of babies head. To keep baby safe, you MUST be able to see baby’s face at all times.
Water
Make sure you stay nice and hydrated - both you and baby.
Shade
Where possible seek shade to stay cool and out of direct sunlight.
Muslin trick
This is our FAMOUS trick to keep you & baby cool in the summer.
Get a muslin and run under cold water
Wring it out so its just damp
Roll it up and drape around your neck.
This will keep you and baby nice and cool... Honestly the best tip ever!
If you need to you can also drape one over babies legs
Layers
Make sure baby isn't wearing to many layers (1 layer is normally enough or even just a nappy if it's very hot). You can always take extra layers with you if it gets a bit chilly. Keep in mind that your carrier is classed as a layer of clothing for your little one.
Carrier type
Some carriers are thicker than others so just be aware especially those with newborn inserts.
If you are lucky enough to be going on holiday this year the Integra Solar is as amazing option as its very breathable and is made by sun protective fabric to block out those harmful rays. (Check out John and Sam enjoying the pool in Malta using the Integra Solar)
